The firm audit log records significant actions taken under your firm — client creations, capacity changes, billing-owner overrides, tier changes, and more. It's your accountability trail for who did what, when. This guide explains how to read it.
💡 Tip — Who can use this For firm admins, on your firm portal.
Quick reference
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Review the audit log |
Step 1 — Read the audit log
Open the Audit Log section of your firm portal. You'll see a chronological list of firm-level actions, each showing:
- The actor — who performed the action (a firm member or "System Admin" if a platform admin acted on a firm client).
- The action type — what happened (e.g. client created, capacity limits updated, billing owner changed, tier changed).
- The details — specifics like old and new values.
- The timestamp.
📝 Note — Platform admin actions appear here too When a platform admin takes an action that affects one of your firm's clients (for example, changing a client's tier or assigning a partner), that action is cross-logged into your firm's audit trail with the admin as the actor. This keeps your trail complete even for actions you didn't perform.
💡 Tip — Use the log for accountability The audit log is valuable for governance — if a client's tier or capacity changed unexpectedly, the log shows who did it and when. Review it periodically to keep track of administrative changes across your firm.
